John Digweed Headlines Avalon's NYE With Extended Set

LOS ANGELES, December 13th, 2010 - House and techno legend, John Digweed, will be headlining this year’s New Year’s Eve party at the Avalon Hollywood December 31st, 2010. Digweed is one of the most prolific, consistent and influential DJs in the world, emerging from the small seaside UK town of Hastings to become one of the biggest DJs on the planet.

Los Angeles is no stranger to John Digweed, indeed he headlined Avalon’s first ever New Year’s Eve party in Hollywood, and his iconic sets at the Mayan and Avalon have become the stuff of West Coast legend. The return of John Digweed to headline Avalon’s NYE is not insignificant. His signature approach to DJing, putting substance over cheap frills, is the underlying theme behind the night, back to basics.

Whether on his meticulous productions and mix CDs for his label Bedrock, or behind a club’s DJ booth, Digweed is a man who lets his music do the talking. He disregards brow-beating pomp and circumstance and refuses to follow flash-in-the-pan genre trends. The underlying pillars of his success mirror the founding tenets of Avalon, presenting consistently great music with incredible sound and taking club goers on musical journeys that resonate well beyond closing time.

While other NYE offerings may attempt to dazzle you with fairground rides, neon and glowsticks or fireworks, Avalon will, as ever, be focused on the essentials, great music and great sound in one of Hollywood’s most iconic properties. Starting the New Year as you mean to go on is always important, and no-one wants to spend NYE fighting through crowds or dodging elbows on over-full dancefloors. Comfort and style will be watchwords throughout the night at Avalon with renovated VIP booths, plus balcony and stage seating available.

Digweed’s return is a fitting way to cap off an excellent year at Avalon, which has been the West Coast’s home to dance music in 2010, frequently selling out both its weekly nights, CONTROL and Avaland. Avaland has continued to host the biggest names in house and techno, with residents Erick Morillo, Dirty South and Steve Angello, while CONTROL has presented the best and brightest emerging names in dance music to a new generation of fans, hosting everyone from GRUM to Wolfgang Gartner. Plaudits have included I-DJ, Resident Advisor, Mix Mag, DJ Mag and the venue won URB Mag’s reader’s poll for best venue early in 2010.

Digweed has been on a touring tear this year, with appearances on six continents and sets at the world’s most renowned festivals including Global Gathering, Electric Zoo, Ultra, and more. Even with this hectic and highly demanding schedule, John found time to compile and release the essential 2xCD Structures Compilation on his own Bedrock label in July, featuring some of his own tracks as well as some of his esteemed colleagues’ releases.
