electric zoo goes on-air; nyc dance radio survives

Sirius XM (satellite) Radio is celebrating the Labor Day weekend with special programming, including a live broadcast from the two-day Electric Zoo dance festival in New York on "Area" (Sirius channels 38 and 80). According to a Sirius XM statement the broadcast coverage will include "live sets and interviews with superstar DJ artists, producers and remixers, expected to include David Guetta, Deadmau5, Ferry Corsten, Armin Van Burren, Robbie Rivera, Roger Sanchez, Kaskade, Benny Benassi, Ben Watt, Steve Aoki, Josh Gabriel and Markus Schulz." Airtime includes noon to 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday (EST). Info.

Meanwhile the New York Daily News reports that Pulse 87 dance radio has survived a rough summer with improved ratings and nearly one million daily listeners. This without much of a marketing budget and a low-dial position and lower-power transmitter. City dance crusader Tony Santiago states: "Every listener Pulse has gotten has come from word of mouth. There are still many people who don't know it exists. Pulse proves that if this music were on a station with a full-market signal and a promotion budget, it would be top-five, guaranteed."
