In this week's LA Weekly I profile rapper-turned-pop-artist Amanda Blank, who made her name as part of the Spank Rock crew and as an opening act for Santigold and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Her debut, I Love You, is out this week via Downtown Records.
"If people want to hear my Baltimore club style, they can buy a mixtape," Blank says. "This album is about loud, poppy songs. Melodies and harmony were a lot more important to me."
She's performing Saturday at the Hard Summer festival in Inglewood, California.
