Amid a sour economy, record unemployment and a bottom-dwelling stock market, the dance music industry hasn't seemed to have lost its step. Associated Press reported that the Winter Music Conference in Miami went off just fine last week. And now this:
The annual Electric Daisy Carnival rave in Los Angeles is expanding to two days - June 26 and 27. The event will feature Paul Oakenfold, ATB, Eddie Halliwell and Boyz Noise on day one; Fatboy Slim, Paul van Dyk, David Guetta, Benny Benassi and Roger Sanchez are scheduled for day two.
Veteran promoter Pasquale Rotella says there's room for more than 100,000 of his friends over both days at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum grounds in Exposition Park.
It's interesting to see the dance scene thriving in such trying times. But it does remind me of those dire early '90s when it seemed like L.A. was was abandoned to the ravers, particularly after the riots. (And Rotella was there). Maybe there's a correlation.
