pvd spins new app; glow sticks go mobile

Trance icon Paul Van Dyk has unveiled his own iPhone application, which is being used to promote his best-of album Volume, due June 9 on Ultra. The $1.99 download, developed by Yuza Mobile for a late May release at the Apple App Store, will feature a BPM counter, frequency analyzer, decibel meter, seismic reader, virtual glow stick, DJ check list and an itinerary manager.

"I have had great fun being a part of the development team for my app over the past few months and think that both aspiring and professional DJs will have great fun using it," PVD states. "On a practical level, it includes everything that a DJ needs."

While I might normally be aghast that the PVD camp will actually try to make money from a promotional dowload, I must say the glow stick feature on the "Paul Van Dyk iPhone Applicaiton," as it's formally titled, is probably worth the money for the laughs alone. He demonstrates the app at YouTube.
