report: a lot riding on dj hero

According to gaming site Kotaku, Activision has lofty goals for the Guitar Hero spinoff DJ Hero, which will include hardware and music from Universal if a deal with the label goes through.

"We continue to add additional legs to the Guitar Hero franchise with the launch of DJ Hero," Activision chief financial officer Thomas Tippl reportedly told a group of investors this week. "What that allows us to do is come up with a very innovative product that allows us to sell a software product plus a hardware product as a bundle ... It also allows us to bring in new users to the music genre. Because it is a different kind of music for a different kind of gamer. So we hope to broaden the base there."

He also reportedly said the game's audience "probably skews younger than rock songs."
