detroit designer designated

Paxahau, the promotion firm behind Movement '09: Detroit's Electronic Music Festival, announced the winner of the aforementioned contest to find the event's graphic designer in-residence. And the winner is ... Derek Kuschel, 27, who created a gears-in-transmission graphic (above) with the letters "MVNT" that will be the official design for the fest's t-shirts, banners, fliers, advertisements and official site.

"We really liked the symbolism he used in his design, but what impressed us most was his technical skills and proven track record of project management," stated Jason Huvaere, president of Paxahau. "Just because you can create doesn't mean you can execute a project of this magnitude and during the interview process he showed us he is capable of doing both."

Kuschel works in the interactive department at Ringside Creative near Detroit. Before that he worked at Campbell-Ewald, which has a client list that includes Chevrolet, General Motors, U.S. Navy and Alltel Wireless.
