dance writer exits l.a. times

The website LAObserved today reports that Los Angeles Times staff writer Charlie Amter has left the paper to become news editor at OK! magazine, presumably at the mag's West Coast office in Beverly Hills, California.

Amter single-handedly brought a new wave of knowledgeable dance-music reportage to the paper by adding the scene to his wider entertainment beat. He was a fixture at major DJ events. His exit comes as a new round of layoffs, with as many as 50 newsroom employees expected to be cut, hits this week. That seems to make it doubtful the paper will get its groove back on when it comes to covering its hometown's most-popular nightlife pursuit, but we'll see.
