dance music news: wednesday

-DJ Z-Trip (above), who has hosted several "Party for Change" events with Los Angeles-based artist and spinner Shepard Fairey in order to recruit voters for Sen. Barack Obama, has released a free, 54 minute "Obama Mix." You can download it here.

"Please share the message," Mr. Trip says. "Educate those who may not know what is really going on. There is still free time. I encourage you to make it a priority to speak to your friends, family and co-workers. Speak to anyone who will listen. This election is WAY [his caps, not mine - ed.] too important for anyone to not get involved. Together we will vote to change our current course and reclaim a leadership of which we can be proud."

By the way, I totally offer equal time to McCain camp, but as yet, no one has sent me info on DJ-driven McCain events -- and certainly no one I know of has done a "McCain Mix."

Another aside: I wonder if people who voted for and argued for a second Bush term stand by him today. Maybe we should a danceblogga poll.

-The eclectic Brazilian-based DJ duo N.A.S.A. releases The Spirit of Apollo Feb. 17 on the -Anti label. N.A.S.A.'s Squeak E. Clean and DJ Zevon are joined on the album by Chuck D., David Byrne, Tom Waits, Kool Keith and Karen O. N.A.S.A., by the way, stands for North America South America.

-In addition to the Pete Tong-organized Insiders Showcase we told you about previously, there's another must-see event during the CMJ in New York this month: The Fool's Gold Showcase Oct. 23 at Webster Hall will feature DJ A-Trak, Kavinsky, Kid Sister, Flosstradamus, and more.
