The top-three winners of the annual America's Best DJ popularity poll have been unveiled: Los Angeles-based trance DJ Christopher Lawrence took the top honor, along with a one-of-a-kind, gold-plated Pioneer DJ mixer. Second place ("silver") went to battle turntablist Qbert and third ("bronze") went to former MTV spinner Skribble. The win perhaps represents somewhat of a comeback for Lawrence, whose image was tainted when it was discovered online cheating helped him achieve a high ranking in DJ Magazine's Top 100 DJs poll last year. He was disqualified, although he claimed to know nothing about the scam, blaming a marketing manager that allegedly put DJ Dan in a similar (and disqualified) quandry.
The awards were handed out Tuesday at club Rouge in Las Vegas. One-hundred finalists are chosen by the editors of DJ Times, then four-months of online campaigning and voting ensues before winners are announced. Check back at the official site later for the rest of the winners.
