-James Lavelle and his UNKLE project (above) are back with a film-score-inspired long-player titled End Titles ... Stories For Film, due July 15 digitally and Sept. 2 in hardcopy form. Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age returns as one of several contributors on the album. The tracks "Heaven" and "Blade in the Back" have already made appearances in Spike Jonze's skate video Fully Flared. The new CD "covers a much wider range of influences than an album like War Stories," Lavelle states. "There is room for everything in this kind of collection, from classical all the way to beat-drive instrumentals and electronic rock."
Four tracks will be rolled out for free download at four different sites, but once listeners get them all they can be played in-sequence as the artist intended.
"Kaned And Abel" is released at UNKLE.com Friday.
"Chemical (feat. Josh Homme) is released at Pitchfork Monday
"Blade in the Back (feat. Gavin Clark) is released at RCRDLBL.com July 2
"Synthetic Water" is released at UNKLE77.com on July 4.
-Last time I interviewed him, Moby was glad to be shedding his band and going back to DJing, if only because it makes life easier in terms of equipment and mobility. Turns out that he's bringing back the band for a special performance July 31 at the Malibu Performing Arts Center in Malibu, Calif. It's part of "KCRW Sessions," a series of performances (the first featured Sia) put on my Santa Monica, Calif. public radio titan KCRW (89.9 FM).
