ra-ra

So Resident Advisor's editor and reviews editor quit after the site allegedly killed a review of John Digweed's mix-CD Transitions 4 in favor of a more glowing one produced by an ad department trying to appease one of its best advertisers - allegedy (see more in yesterday's post, below).

I tracked down the review that ran on the site and, indeed, it's glowing. In fact, I find it a bit strange that the review calls the fourth installment of Diggers' series the best. Before this controversy broke out I had number 4 pegged as the worse one yet. Let me qualify that - Digweed is perhaps my favorite DJ. Everything he does I consider above and beyond 99 percent of what's out there in mix-CD land - including 4. And, let me remind readers that Digweed always intended Transitions to be a quick-hit series that reflect his latest sets on the road. Each installment is not intended to be a rock-of-ages comp, but rather, as Diggers himself put it "an immediate snapshot of my favorite tunes." But compared the others, 4 felt linear and uninspired. Those club-like moments - a flush of bass, a magic breakdown - seemed to be missing. In fact, for some reason, I've had 3 and 4 playing back to back in my car's CD changer for the past week, and 3 by far has more emotion, drive and soul. I can only guess that the original reviewer said as much.

Here then, allegedly, is the advertorial version of RA's review.
