thursday notes

-Hip-hop DJ A. Shaw, sponsor of Justo's Mixtape Awards, is organizing a Million DJ March in Washington, D.C., Aug. 28-30, to bring attention to the lack of union representation, benefits and decent pay for work-a-day spinners. "I am calling upon the industry to show support for an event to unify DJs and help create future economic safety for those that have chosen this art form as a career," Shaw tells Baller Status.

-Talking about striking a pose: Edan Miller, a.k.a. DJ EM, says he's launching the world's first "all-female DJ-model agency" in New York this summer. He's calling it StaDj DJ Model Agency and has already recruited six models who he has trained to become spinners. "It's not a prerequisite that the talents we select be DJs when they join us," Miller states. "It's more important that they really want to DJ and have the model looks and high energy it takes to push a party over the top." (They must also be able to DJ, referee and MC when break-dance fighting erupts between rival models - Ed.). Miller says he's taught more than 600 people how to spin; he calls himself the agency's "head trainer." More info here. (Above, the agency's DJ Teardrop).

-Spot an e-tard, get a grand. At least that's the deal for tipping off law enforcement in one Illinois county.

-Los Angeles promoter Danny B teases that a new club, Ecco Ultra Lounge, is coming to Hollywood in summer. (Ah, how original - another "ultra lounge." This one, at least, is said to practice "green" policies).

-Beatportal is following the Get Physical label tour around the country with a dedicated blog. It's also been blogging the Sasha and John Digweed tour.

-There's been a lot of buzz out there about the self-titled, Ghostly International debut of Osborne. Here are a few tracks off the album for you: "Outta Site," and "There." Also, check out an Osborne DJ mix, here.
