thursday notes

no static at all
-Static Revenger's latest, Love Song Surprise, is billed as "a compilation of unapologetic down-tempo love songs ... " It's out digitally April 15 and in hard-copy form May 6 via D-Dub Records. People surprised that an up-tempo dance music producer is writing love songs shouldn't be, says Mr. Revenger. "I used to sing in a major label band in the '90s," says the man born Dennis White. "We had quite a big audience in Detroit back then. Kid Rock was our opening act for years. That's true!... I'm never sure if that part of the story is cool or tragic."

Check out the album tracks "Satellite" and "Sweetest Day."

-Los Angeles' own DJ Chris Cox will be entertaining the music industry elites at the invite-only official after-party for the Grammy Awards Sunday in downtown L.A.

-Another blow for trance? Gatecrasher, the tranciest club brand in the world, is practically shutting out the genre at its annual spring festival, Summer Sound System, May 24 and 25. Paul Oakenfold is about as arpeggiated as the lineup gets. Justice, Digitalism, Chemical Brothers, The Prodigy and Simian Mobile Disco are reportedly scheduled to perform.

-Switch stars in my weekly dance club recommendations for the Los Angeles area.
