s-o-v holds the key
Thursday notes:

-*Roger S. stars in my weekly dance club recommendations for the Los Angeles area. *(Oops: I just noticed an error on my part. I call Sanchez's theme "Be Yourself," which actually belongs to Danny T. S-Man goes with the similar sounding "Release Yourself." Apologies to the men in question. I definitely know better. It was an innocent slip-up. Now, Go On With Your Bad Self [which will someday be the name of my party]).

-The New York Times takes a look at British grime rapper Lady Sovereign (above), whose full-length debut, Public Warning, was released this week on Def Jam, and whose single "Love Me or Hate Me" is the most-requested video on MTV's "TRL." The Times doesn't give her much chance of breaking through to the hip-hop crowd however. Here's my piece on her from last year. Los Angeles Times pop critic Ann Powers reviewed the album over the weekend. She seemed to like Sovereign for presenting a tough-minded alternative to the top female pop stars who present "a picture of femininity that's fairly uniform, if lingerie can be considered a uniform."

-Several dates have been added (denoted by asterisks, below) to Jimmy Van M's DJ tour. He's hitting the road to promote the Nov. 21 release of his latest mix-CD, Balance 010.
