Thursday notes:-Jay-J Hernandez (pictured above) stars in my Los Angeles-area dance club recommendations for the week.
-Rhythmism has the scoop on the Feb. 7 release of Delta Heavy, a DVD featuring some of the sound and visuals of the groundbreaking 2002 DJ tour of the same name. Sasha, John Digweed and Jimmy Van M hit arena-sized venues and brought their own sound system and VJ-produced eye candy for a prog-rock-like experience. Once again, industry folks take note: This kind of thing brings value back to the record store: Sound, lights, action. I'd buy it.
-Oy vey: The Israeli Supreme Court approved the extradition of Zeev Rosenstein to the U.S. He's suspected of being one of the biggest ecstasy dealers in U.S. history, having allegedly had a hand in the distribution of 1 million little pills in the United States. A Miami jail cell is being readied for his arrival. Cozy.
-LA Weekly discovers DJ Danger Mouse more than a year after I put him on the cover of LA CityBeat. Well, it is former URB Magazine editor Scott Sterling doing a Q&A about his recent work. Fair enough. Sterling did an awesome profile of the Neptunes in CityBeat, BTW. Okay. But then the Weekly puts its stamp of approval on Kanye West. Cool. Never heard. Kanye who? Oh, the guy who had a No. 1 album in late summer. Ah. On it. Very alternative. Okay, it was to preview a Dec. 3 concert. But I tell you this: This kind of Johnny-come-last music journalism WILL stop under New Times ownership. Mark my words.
